Geometer? - Anavitrinella pampinaria

Geometer? - Anavitrinella pampinaria
Williamson County, Texas, USA
September 14, 2007
Late in the afternoon, while walking in the woods, my camera bumped a bush and this moth flew up, across the trail, and landed on a treetrunk. If it had not landed oblique to the "grain" of the bark pattern, I might not have found it to photograph. I'd gone out with just the camera, not even the little plastic ruler I usually have, so the best I can do on size is a guess...and I'm not good at size guesses. It wasn't huge; it wasn't tiny. More than an inch, less than three.

Compared to the images of geometers I've found so far, it's much paler. Maybe it's not a geometer moth at all? But the general appearance seems to fit there better than elsewhere. Its antennae are tucked under the wings (for safety?)

Anavitrinella pampinaria - Hodges#6590

to see if that's a good match. Nina

Looks good to me....
...and thanks. It's always fun to add another new one to the land list...
