Size: 1.25"-1.5"
This one showed up at night in the shadows at the edge of the porch light. It was very large, almost 1.5".

Dytiscus or Cybister, maybe
I think the real large ones are Dytischus or Cybister. It helps to get a photo of the ventral surface--the dorsal is smooth and similar in most aquatics, at least to my eye. I've been trying to puzzle these out, and will have a well-documented Cybister posted soon.
