Female Mantid - Stagmomantis carolina - Female
Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois, USA
September 16, 2007
Size: 2"
I found this around noon on the porch of my house. It is smaller and different than most of the mantids that I find. So I'm not sure as to what she is.

She.
You are correct in assigning her the female gender:-) This is an adult female Stagmomantis species, probably S. carolina, though you may have additional species in Illinois of which I am unaware. S. carolina females may either be mottled gray or brown; or solid lime green.

I've seen some huge Chinese M
I've seen some huge Chinese Mantids. About two weeks ago is when I was seeing those, though. A few months ago I was seeing some relative to this size but bright green, and they looked different. I didn't have the camera with me to capture those though.

Thanks for the help. I couldn't put my finger on which Mantid this one was.
