Spilomyia longicornis?

Moved
Moved from Spilomyia.

Moving to
longicornis.

Spilomyia longicornis looks right to me
But I'm no expert, just another set of penetrating eyes. Speaking of which, I love your syrphid's!

Syrphids
At this time of year there are more of these larger syrphids showing up in the back garden. This one was sunning itself on a rock and didn't notice me for a few moments which allowed enough time to get this photo. It also seems that some of them don't regard the camera as a threat after a few initial approaches.

Similar experience
I've found most of the big ones are relatively easy to approach. My current problem is with the little guys, who just won't light. I shot what was for me a new species yesterday, but the photo was too blurry to ID.
