Goldenrod Crab Spider - Misumena vatia - male

Goldenrod Crab Spider - Misumena vatia - Male
Lacey (near Olympia), Thurston County, Washington, USA

I call this one "Smiley" for obvious reasons! :)

Is this a male Misumenoides formosipes (Whitebanded crab spider)?

This looks to us more like a young male
Misumena vatia. The legs and palps are not yet dark, but that may happen on the next molt. We don't see the ridge through the eyes that would lead us to Misumenoides, and the males of that species have a very different body color. It will be interesting to see what Jeff says.
