Sphecid
Thanks for the family ID as well the the guess beyond. Though I considered Sphecidae as a family after looking at images, I haven't gotten to the point where I could use dichotomous keys. Do you have suggestions as to literature?
I'm principally looking at plants, for which I've learned to use keys rather than pictures (though the latter can help). I'm also fascinated by their 'clients' when I see them.

Thanks again,

Hartmut Wisch

Sphecid wasp.
This is a sphecid wasp, family Sphecidae, probably in the tribe Psenini, possibly a species of Mimumesa, but that is a guess. Nice image of a seldom-recorded taxon.

definitely Psenini
I'm not sure about the genus yet
