Things do get complicated. These bugs look so much alike, it's easy to get confused.

Allacma (Trochopilosa) purpurescens
Hi Tom, in this picture the length of the 4th antennal segment is well visible. And it is too long for Allacma s.s. ...
Allacma fusca would be my first guess, but...
Compare with your picture of what I originally (mis)IDed as Sminthurus bivittatus. That specimen is a true Allacma sensu stricto. With relatively shorter 4th antennal segment.

This specimen seems to match best with a dark purplish Allacma-like species that has been placed in a separate subgenus of Allacma: Trochopilosa.
