Looks to me like
the Black Caterpillar Hunter (Calosoma sayi)
I'm not an expert, but compare it to the image below


Please keep in mind that there are very many similar looking carabid beetles. You may be wise to leave it here for a few more days, but my untrained eye tells me that this is a very good match.
