Locust Borer - Megacyllene robiniae

Locust Borer - Megacyllene robiniae
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
September 19, 2007
Size: approx 1.5 cm
Found a few of these colourful longhorn beetles among some Golden rod plants along with a host of bees and wasps. Makes you believe they are using some mimicry to protect themselves. These guys also squeak when picked up by stridulating by rubbing the back of their head against the prothorax. Pick one up and watch closely!

Locust borer
That beast do look a lot like Megacyllene robiniae (the locust borer) to me.
