This is the "golden garden spider," or "writing spider," Argiope aurantia. It is an orb weaver. NO orb weaver spiders are dangerously venomous to people or pets. Thank you for letting this female spider be:-)

Thanks for sharing that they're harmless! We have one of these beauties in our garden and now that I know my wife and I, and our pets are safe, I'm going to do my best to keep her happily living here for as long as she'll stay!
