I am Trox - Trox capillaris

I am Trox - Trox capillaris
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
April 10, 2005
Size: 9.5 mm
This little fellow was scurrying through the dead grass headed straight for a dried up deer leg some hunter left behind in November. I moved him onto the deer leg to have his portrait made.

This one was considerably larger than the Trox I have photographed on owl pellets. This one measured 9.5 mm, give or take a micron.

As always, additions or corrections to my ID would be appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Hide Beetles.

And the winner is:
I am Trox capillaris. This should be the only species with the dark, isolated clumps of setae on the elytra.

Nice shot
This is about as big as members of this genus get - looks like T. unistriatus, but would need speciman to be sure.

Thanks, Phillip!
Thanks, Phillip! I appreciate the ID help.
