Do you know if it was caught in flight?

 
It was.
I watched this mantis snag this dragonfly out of the air. After I got my camera ready another dragonfly landed next to the mantis.

 
Ootheca
There are two oothecae (egg cases) right below her. Believed she laid that ootheca.
