Small Beetle - Phyllobaenus pallipennis

Small Beetle - Phyllobaenus pallipennis
State Line Lookout, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA
September 18, 2007
Size: 3.9 mm.
Tentative ID: Cleridae- Phyllobaenus pallipennis. If confirmed, this would be a new species for BugGuide, and possibly a state record for NJ. I have limited resources to check the latter.
Picture on the leaf is posed. I have the specimen.

Got it.
I can confirm the family ID, and would agree with the genus as well, but don't know enough about clerids to go further than that:-)

Species
Thanks for the family and genus, Eric. The link supplied by Tim has species information.

looks like P. pallipennis
keying from genus in Downie and Arnett, this appears to key easily to P. pallipenis (Say). The description is an excellent fit too. There's a line drawing in Dillon2 that matches. Web images here.
Looks like you got it! Nice addition to BugGuide.

Downie and Arnett state "frequent on Oak", and show wide distro including NY, PA, and points north, south, and west. So it shouldn't be a surprise to be found in NJ, but always good to be confirmed. As I'm a NJ resident, do you have a good source of NJ species? I haven't found any on the web, but I haven't tried state DoA or Rutgers.

seconded, Ph. pallipennis

NJ
Thanks for the confirmation, Tim. It was because of the list in Downie and Arnett that I said it was "possibly" a state record. By no means am I claiming it is.
Sorry, I don't have a source for NJ species. Your suggestions for places to look are good.
I look forward to updates on your already very impressive "home" count.
