black widow spiderlings - Latrodectus

black widow spiderlings - Latrodectus
Dixon, Phelps County, Missouri, USA
September 23, 2007
I happened to come across a newly hatched eggsac of black widows. I found it fascinating, although my husband was less than amused. I did manage to get some photos before he had his way, but unfortunately, I will not be able to continue to photograph them as they mature. The mother was in the very bottom under the eggsac, but I wasn't reaching through the babies to get to her (I don't think they're venomous at that age, but just the idea prevented me even considering it.) I don't know if any of these images are worth keeping, that's why I didn't just post them under black widows. Feel free to frass them if you can't use them.
