Large Black Beetle - Xyloryctes jamaicensis

Large Black Beetle - Xyloryctes jamaicensis
Mechanicsville, Md., USA, St. Marys County, Maryland, USA
September 27, 2007
Size: 1.5 inches
I found this hollow carcase on my back deck. It is in perfect condition and so I have saved it. Someone said that Rhino Beetles are native to Australia so I guess my calling this guy a Rhino Beetle was not correct. It is just that it reminded me of a Rhino I saw in Kenya.
