Masked Chafer - Cyclocephala melanocephala

Masked Chafer - Cyclocephala melanocephala
Julian, North Peak, Cuyamaca Mountains, San Diego County, California, USA
August 3, 2007
Size: 12 mm
This beetle is a mystery to me. Specimens in the San Diego Natural History Museum that look very similar are identified as in the genus "Dichromina," but when I Google Image search this genus nothing comes up that is even close. Quite a few of them came to my black light over the summer. The pronotum is a dark rusty red (hard to see in this picture) compared to the yellowish elytra. What is it?

Dichromina is jr. syn. of Cyclocephala
I'm not aware of any recent revision that resurrected it. Listed on genus page --> syn., but your hunch is right - this is a Cyclocephala sp.

from CA; Cyclocephala hirta, C. longula, C. melanocephala, C. pasadenae, C. pilosicollis or C. wandae
