Mymarid

Mymarid
Dixie Plantation, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
September 16, 2007
Size: <1mm
This microscopic fella seems to be a mymarid wasp... now that Richard Lareau's images are gone this group is pitifully represented! Note the "feathered" forewings. Supposedly the hindwings are reduced to filaments in these guys.

Moved

Not a Mymarid
This specimen does not belong to the Mymaridae, it is in fact from Proctotrupoidea (a proctotrupid parasitic wasp).

What happened
Pardon my ignorance, but do you know what happened to Richard?

i don't know
I posted a few months back about this on the forum. He disappeared along with all of his images, and good images at that. I miss his input on these little insects! Whatever happened, he must have had a fallin g out with Bugguide.

That's unfortunate.
He poured so much time and effort into contributing material and identifications to BugGuide. I'm sorry to hear that something may have fallen out. BugGuide did lose a very valuable contributor here.
