What kind of Spider ? - Latrodectus

What kind of Spider ? - Latrodectus
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
September 30, 2007
Size: 1/4" w/o legs
This Spider reminded me of an immature Black widow , but it was so gangly that I am not sure . It was digging into the wrapped up Beetle hungrily . I found it on the outside wall of my house at 10 in the morning . Any comments would be appreciated as I would like to know for sure what I am looking at , thanks ... sincerely Beth

Mature male widow:-)
This is an adult male widow, probably L. hesperus, as I don't think there is any other species in California.
