Moth ID Request - Pennisetia marginata - Male
Herring Run Watershed, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA
September 28, 2007

Moved
Moved from Clearwing Moths.

Clear-Wing Moth
Family Sesiidae. it's probably one of the variety of borers in the family

Pennisetia marginata female
The moth shown is Pennisetia marginata. For some reason females are easier to find than males.

sesiid identification
Marius - The antennae show this to be a male.

My mistake
Thanks for correction Dr. Eichlin. I probably did not look careful enough at the antennae, as male antennae (pectinate) are quite different from female antennae (filiform).
