These tiny guys first showed up in my yard last week. When flying, they give the impression of tiny fluffy white puffballs with perhaps a slightly glowing bit of blue on or near the head. In this photo, to me, the whole body has a bluish cast -- more so than appears to the naked eye. It looks as if there is white fluffy material inbetween the folded wings.

Any clues?

to aphids.

...
It is an aphid, my best guess is this is what used to be called an Eriosomatid, but is now an Eriosomatine (the family got changed into a subfamily). The whitish stuff is wax secreted as a defence. Some individuals can get quite woolly with this wax indeed.

Thanks
Thanks Sean! A whole new world!
