metallic green Wasp - Chlorion aerarium

metallic green Wasp - Chlorion aerarium
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
October 1, 2007
Size: 1 1/2"
I have seen this roving beauty many times before , but it never stays still and zooms far away . I got lucky this time to get a pretty good photo as it landed in the sandy soil to investigate the weeds for prey I presume . What kind of food is it looking for ? I would love to know what kind of wasp this is . I have seen a smaller version on Mt. Diablo roving through the shrubbery and also in Sunol park . Thanks for any comments , sincerely Beth

Great image!
This is a great image of C. aerarium! Normally they are too quick to get an image of, and the metallic colors don't turn out very well. Excellent contribution:-)

Chlorion aerarium Patton, 1879
