Pedicel from French pedicelle, Old French pedicule, from Latin pedis, a foot.
Peduncle from vernacular Latin pedunculus, from pedis, a foot.
Identification
pedicel noun, (alt. pedicle), plural pedicels, adjective pedicellate; (synonym peduncle noun, adjective pedunculate) - A piece supporting an organ, or joining one organ to another, like a neck. In entomology, has two usual meanings:
1-The second segment of the
antenna,

2-The "waist" of many
hymenoptera--the part of the
abdomen that connects the
gaster to the
thorax. Apparently, the preferred term is
petiole.
3-In phoretic mites a stalk-like temporary attachment structure that connects the mite with the carrier.
