Heavy passenger load - Monotoma longicollis

Heavy passenger load - Monotoma longicollis
Merrimack, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
October 3, 2007
Size: about 1.8 mm
I saw this tiny beetle land on some boards I had painted earlier (now dry) laid out on some sawhorses. I whipped out my handy pocket loupe and peered at it to see if it was of interest. Indeed it was. It appeared to have a prominent light-colorerd bump atop its pronotum. Into my pocket vial it went.

As you can see, the bump was some live air freight being transferred from who-knows-where to who-knows-where. Notice it's riding on the pronotum, leaving the elytra free to open so the beetle can fly.
