Horace's Duskywing For Illinois In October - Erynnis horatius - female

Horace's Duskywing For Illinois In October - Erynnis horatius - Female
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
October 4, 2007
Size: Approx. 2 in. wingspan
Data posting for this species in Illinois, for the month of October.

I see where nobody has posted one from October, from any state, so I'm surprised about this and would like some opinions on confirmation. It seems also that the only sightings of this species in September are primarily southern states. So, is this specimen lost or just mis-identified?

I haven't seen any kind of Duskywing since August 16th, and have not seen this particular Butterfly before today; that is, it's not a holdover that I've been seeing for a week or so.

RE: When aloft?
October is late for your area.

butterfliesandmoths has them out and about April-September, except for deep South and Texas where it's January-November

Butterflies through Binoculars the West - only one I have - has flight period from March-September in east Texas and Oklahoma; April-May and July-August in Colorado and New Mexico.

Note the major differences for Texas in the two sources. This type of discrepency makes the proof-positive postings of Bug Guide an important resource for studying butterflies. So hey, you Texans, get out there and shoot!
