Wasp on Apple - Vespula

Wasp on Apple - Vespula
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
October 3, 2007
I assume this is a Common Wasp (vespula vulgaris), but I'd like some second opinions before I say it is. Proper identification is important for this particular image... thank you in advance! :)

Hmm....
I'd say it looks more like vulgaris, however there is the possibility of flavopilosa....

I think this second possibility...
is the right one.
Combination of broad yellow humeral stripes on the pronotum and broadly "attached" diamond-shaped black central spot on first urotergite hind for a dark Downy Yellowjacket worker, Vespula flavopilosa.
Moreover, a V. vulgaris worker would have a longer, more distinct black pilosity on top of head and thorax.
