Tachnid fly ? - Paradejeania rutilioides

Tachnid fly ? - Paradejeania rutilioides
Pleasanton / Sunol, Alameda ? County, California, USA
October 6, 2007
Size: 1/2 "
At first , I thought this fuzz bomb was a Bumblebee . I am pretty sure it is a Tachnid fly with it's distinctive bristles , butt I must say I was impressed with his robustness . I found him on a flowering Coyote bush along with many other interesting insects . In fact , I should have just pulled up a chair at this one Coyote bush since it was buzzing with life for some reason . This big fly flew away many times but returned for some photos thankfully . Thanks for any comments , Beth

Adejeania, Adalbert's candidate:

Which lead me to Paradejeania:

Darker thorax and "eyes" on abdomen make me think this is right. However, expert advice is needed here!

Tachinid fly? You bet!
Looks like Hystricia abrupta
