Green/black Wasp - Aporus luxus

Green/black Wasp - Aporus luxus
Pleasanton / Sunol, Alameda County, California, USA
October 6, 2007
Size: 3/4 "
I found this beautiful Wasp on a flowering Coyote bush that was popular among all insects ... should've pulled up a chair ! I am not sure what type of Wasp this is , but found it mesmerizing . Thanks for any comments , Beth

Pompilid
something in the tribe Aporini... i think it is in the genus Aporus.

Looks good.
You're probably correct. Maybe Aporus luxus, the antennal insertion is too high for A. hirsutus.

Question
When this flew were the under side of the wings a orange color? If so this is called a Tarantula Hawk.

green/black Wasp
This Wasp is much smaller than the Tarantula Hawk Wasps that I have seen and they are usually black with orange wings . This Wasp is black with a shiny blue green glimmer.
