Brown Conehead - Neoconocephalus triops - female

Brown Conehead - Neoconocephalus triops - Female
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
October 9, 2007
Size: Large, >2"
There were two of these on my porch tonight. One was trapped in my butterfly net, which was just leaning against the wall :P.

It resembles a green one I found this summer: . That one was identified as Neoconocephalus by Eric Eaton.

Female?

Female conehead.
This is a female (note ovipositor, lack of stridulatory area on "shoulders"), and probably the broad-tipped conehead, Neoconocephalus triops. I'll move to the species page, since I'm pretty confident on this, thanks to a nice shot of the underside of the "cone."

Thanks again, Eric
I had seen that species in the guide and noted its similarities to my specimen, but there are a lot of species in the genus, and I know better than to assume I've found a match :).
