Mischocyttarus mexicanus? - Mischocyttarus mexicanus
Sarasota, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
October 7, 2007
I moved to get a shot from a different angle and found they'd already reoriented to keep an eye on me, but still remained motionless as I took their photo.

Mischocyttarus mexicanus
Check both images - difficult to see but the yellow marks at top of thorax are consistent with Mischocyttarus mexicanus.

im still getting famillar with species i have never actually seen, thanks for the good info!:)

Not an expert
Also learning - always :)

I'm definitely not an expert
I'm definitely not an expert yet either!! Still taking a lot in.

Mischocyttarus is easily separated from the genus Polistes by the slender, petiolate first abdominal segment (in the United States and Canada only, there are some other genera in the neotropics that superficially resemble Mischocyttarus, you need a microscope to separate them).

Great information -
thanks!
