Explanation of Names
Specific epithet for the type locality.
Size
Wingspan about 18-19 mm. (2)
Forewing length 7.5-9.5 mm. (3)
Identification
Adult - forewing light brownish-gray with dark speckling and large dark brown to black semicircular patch half-way along costa; basal area slightly darker than remainder of wing; hindwing gray with white fringe.
Range
Connecticut and Michigan, south to Florida and Mississippi.
Type locality: Virginia.
See Also
P. costomaculana forewing has similar dark patch along costa but remainder of wing has pale cream or yellowish shading with little or no speckling.
