small moth - Sereda tautana

small moth - Sereda tautana
Woburn, Massachusetts, USA
April 17, 2005
Identified by Richard L. Brown.

Probably Grapholita....
.... Richard L. Brown, an expert on this family at Miss. Ento. Mus. has just agreed to referee the Tortricidae at MPG. He'll see this photo soon, along with many other Torts that have been languishing for names.

That's great
These are confusing, so an expert like Mr Brown would help tremendously.

identification?
Did Richard Brown determine this one to be Sereda tautana?

Yes
Richard Brown identified this moth to species, and Bob Patterson relayed the ID to me.

OK - ID source
...has been added to the Guide page.

Reminds us
of Grapholita but all of these little ones look alike! Here's a Grapholita jungiella from Portland Birds in the UK (scroll down to May 8) that looks close but not quite right. I suppose we must have something here in the states close to it.

Also similar to
one that I already have in the guide. Looks like it might be close enough to move to genus.
