The photo was taken indoors. This insect was stationary on a curtain by my open window in the summer.

Yeah, sure:-)
Well, seeing that this specimen is from Iowa, it narrows the suspect list to two: Neoconocephalus retusus and N. nebrascensis. If from the northern half or Iowa, can only be nebrascensis. The specimen is a male, as it lacks an ovipositor.

 
Location
This insect was photographed in Fairfield, Iowa, which is in rural southeast Iowa, if that would help with the ID.
