Size: ~5mm.
Yet another fly from our potato plants which are near the compost bin (live oak/chaparral habitat). Got only one photo of this guy, left as soon as the strobe fired.

It's great to see some of these flies getting IDed. When I took entomology many many years ago, Dipterans were one of the hardest for me, and that was with a specimen in hand and a dissecting scope and only trying to get to family. I'm impressed that anyone can ID them from photos. Thanks again.
