Sac spider - Amaurobius

Size: 2 inches
I found this spider near the base of my wooden deck. He was half-drowned in a container of rainwater and was pretty sluggish. I think that he is a sac spider after browsing this site, but if anyone could provide additional information I would be very grateful! Is he rare in Canada? Would he bite?

Hackled mesh weaver.
Sac spiders do not usually attain that size, but Amaurobius does, and that is what this spider is (family Amaurobiidae). Usually, you can find their webs issuing from crevices in the bark of large trees, or from cracks in buildings. These are common spiders in the Pacific Northwest.
