Springtail 0038 - Hypogastrura

Springtail 0038 - Hypogastrura
Westford, Pennsylvania, USA
July 2, 2007
Found in the water's edge of Pymatuning Lake (fresh water). Reminds me of Anur*ida mari*tima which I realize that it is not. I wish I'd taken more time to get decent shots. I'll try again next year.

Moved

Hypogastrura sp.
Given it is found on fresh water.
Some differences between Anurida and Hypogastrura:
Anurida cannot jump. Hypogastrura does jump.
Anurida has a smooth, dense cover of fine setae.
Hypogastrura has a less dense cover of larger setae.
