Bush katydid? - Orchelimum erythrocephalum

Bush katydid? - Orchelimum erythrocephalum
Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, USA
September 29, 2004
This picture was taken by Dan Chambers during a Carolina Bird Club outing last September. It was identified as a probable Bush Katydid, exactly which one unknown. Can anyone identify it?

Large Meadow Katydid.
Looks like a female meadow katydid in the genus Orchelimum, possibly O. erythrocephalum, the red-headed larger meadow katydid. We have additional images of that species in the guide which you might want to compare this to. The posture and habitat is right on for this genus. They usually crawl around the other side of the stem at one's approach, playing hide-and-seek:-) Bush katydids are almost totally arboreal by contrast.
