Colorful caterpillars - Harrisina metallica

Colorful caterpillars - Harrisina metallica
Tohono Chul Park, nursery, Pima County, Arizona, USA
October 23, 2007
Size: approx. 10 mm
There were many of these caterpillars on a grape cultivar of Vitis californica. If the plant wasn't $25, I'd have bought it just to raise the caterpillars!

Western Grapeleaf Skeletonizer
Hard to beleve BG has only two other submissions, only one larva: . See species page here.

Yeah, good-lookin' cats, but you don't want 'em on your grapes.

Thanks....
....David. I have to agree with Lynette, they are gorgeous. Good thing my husband had his camera along. Very surprising there are so few photos of it on BugGuide but I was happy to see the adult form was there.

Wow,
they are gorgeous! Worth the damage in my opinion. :)
