Muscid Fly? - Calliphora

Muscid Fly? - Calliphora
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
April 19, 2005
Size: ~10 mm
Photographed in my backayrd. It looks similar to Rob's photo of a Muscid:

Moved
Moved from Blow Flies.

Calliphora sp. - vomitoria? -- det. T.L. Whitworth

Calliphoridae?
Pretty sure this is a blow fly of some kind, which still qualifies as a MuscOID:-)

actually...
if this is a calliphorid, that would make it an oestroid, according to the Guide.

Confusing
Muscoid is also used to refer to the Schizophora, or Calyptratae+Acalyptratae. I don't know why this is, though.

Spelling?
Hey Eric,

I know you've called me out on the spelling before, I am just going by what's in the guide:)

Sorry.
I was referring to the Muscoidea, which I thought (wrongly) included Calliphoridae.
