Phidippus princeps. Immatures on top; subadult and adult on bottom; youngest on the left. The six photos combined here are not on the same scale, so this image should not be used as a size comparison.
Note there are two sets of photos for the subadult stage due to observed changes in appearance that occurred well outside of either molt period.
Spider was found foraging in tallgrass prairie on 7/30 just a few hundred yards from
this guy, then photographed and reared in captivity. All other dates shown on each image represent the date of each corresponding molt to that stage, except for the second set of subadult images.
Molt date summary:
07/30/06 - found (probably just molted)
08/28/06 - immature
09/15/06 - antepenultimate
10/11/06 - penultimate (subadult)
11/24/06 - adult
