large tachyporine rove - Tachinus fimbriatus

large tachyporine rove - Tachinus fimbriatus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
October 21, 2007
Size: maybe 10 mm
Found in large patch of fairly fresh mushrooms in my front yard. Collected with plastic sheet method.

This species is fairly common and quite noticeable due to its size, its two-tone coloration, and its scurrying habits. I have found it under dropped fruit and in carrion as well, where presumable it feeds on maggots. Did not measure.
