Small bees mating - Pseudopanurgus - male - female

Small bees mating - Pseudopanurgus - Male Female
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
August 5, 2004
Size: ~15 mm
I often found these bees in this "compromising" position, even while the female was foraging for pollen. The male could be mate guarding because the couple flew from inflorescence to inflorescence in this position. Both male and female bees have green eyes and the female has corbiculae.

Pterosarus aka Heterosarus aka Pseudopanurgus
These are Pterosarus, also known as Heterosarus (Pterosarus). I prefer to consider this the rudbeckiae species group of Pseudopanurgus (sensu Mitchell, not Michener). These are composite specialists.
