Unknown Caterpillar - Syssphinx hubbardi
Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA

Size: About 1 1/2"
Can anyone identify this caterpillar? Found in a carport in Tucson, Arizona. The spikes looked very metallic in sunlight, almost as bright as polished chrome.

Hi Ray, so nice to meet you at the art show! And yes, your caterpillar looks exactly like the one that I'd posted for a friend some weeks ago, just as I thought from your description. If you read through the comments to my picture (the one posted under this comment) you'll see that the ID was not quite undisputed. I wish you'd kept the cat to raise it!
