Monarch on Halloween Day - Danaus plexippus

Monarch on Halloween Day - Danaus plexippus
Stewartsville, Warren County, New Jersey, USA
October 31, 2007
This is in NW New Jersey. We have had several nights with light frosts. I did not expect to see butterflies until next year. A Cabbage White also visited on 10/31.

Nice specimen.
When I lived in Ohio (35 years ago), I always associated butterflies with summer and am surprised to see them so late in states like yours.
