Size: 1/4"w/pinchers ext.
I have always wanted to see one of these critters , but never knew how small they are . I recognized who it was when after flipping a rock up , I noticed long extended arms with tiny pinchers at the end . He would not stay still for good photos . I have a picture of one in my " Bugs of Northern California " book , so I guess they are common ? Thanks for any comments / wish I would've gotten a clearer shot ... maybe next time now that I know what to look for ( a tiny little creature ) . Thanks , Beth

I've seen them only once.
That was under loose bark I peeled off a tree, sycamore I think. There are photos here of them hitching rides on beetles - quite comical.
