Anthidium illustre - male - female

Anthidium illustre - Male Female
Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 7, 2007
The female is the bee in the upper part of this photo. In nearly all of my observations, the females continue to feed (here in Phacelia cicutaria ) during mating.

Interesting legs
Overall appearance and joints in particular resemble strung beads.
