Identification
holoptic adjective - "whole-eyed", refers to the way the compound eyes (oculi) of some diptera meet along the dorsal mid-line of the head. Compare dichoptic. The condition is especially prevalent in males. Photographs showing this condition:


Another definition, perhaps seldom used now:
in the case of an eyespot, such as on various lepidoptera, it is holoptic when it is in a perfect state, i.e., having one pupil surrounded by one ring of color (Jardine).
