Dragonfly ID - Libellula vibrans - male

Dragonfly ID - Libellula vibrans - Male

I initially thought that this was a male Eastern Pondhawk, but this dragon has a white face. Not green like an adult male E. Pondhawk.

Not an ID
Just wanted to say that I think this one is really interesting looking. I know nothing about dragonflies, but this is pretty cool. I looked in the guide and it kind of looks like a Great Blue Skimmer (Libellula vibrans), but my knowledge of this is all of 10 minutes old, so don't count that for much.

John, I love your comments to posts. You're really covering a lot of ground - and very well at that.

Great Blue Skimmer
White face is one of the key marks for Great Blue Skimmer.

Hi All,
Thanks for the ID help! This is a first for me. Never heard of this sp. of dragon until today. I had this in my archive and couldn't figure out what it was and then forgot it was there.

I'll be looking for a female to photograph when spring comes.

Looks like I'll be moving this to Great Blue page :^).
