Giant Shiny Beetle - Hydrophilus
Norman, Cleveland County, Oklahoma, USA
August 16, 2007
This was a huge beetle, perhaps 2 inches in length but this is likely an underestimate. Occasionally seen under street lights at night, but not common.

Giant black water beetle
Genus-Hydrophilus....even though they are a water bug, they are commonly attracted to lights at night.
