Weevil - Pachylobius picivorus

Weevil - Pachylobius picivorus
Cass County, Texas, USA
June 10, 2007
Size: around 1/2"
I am sure it is a weevil. I just don't know what kind.

Moved
Moved from Molytinae.

Moved
Moved from Snout and Bark Beetles. to subfamily - along with its species mates, ID pending.

Should this move
to Curculionidae > Molytinae > Hylobiini > Pachylobius > Pachylobius picivorus ?
Cf. this photo.

Spelling correction
With the assistance info from Mike Thomas, I think this is indeed a pitch eating weevil, however the scientific name he provided is not correct. I believe it actually is Pachylobius picivorus. He was pretty darn close and it got me an ID so thanks.

Lee

Weevil
It's one of the pitch-eating weevils. I'm guessing Pachylobius piscivorus (Germar). They feed on pines.

We have similar
in Molytinae.
