Caliscelis bonellii, male - Caliscelis bonellii - male

Caliscelis bonellii, male - Caliscelis bonellii - Male
in weeds bordering crop field near Sacramento Airport, California, USA
September 7, 2003
Size: probably under 5 mm
This was the smaller of two apparent species collected with sweep net mid-day. These bugs hopped like fleas using their front legs. I don't even know what order to look in for them. My guess is they're immature.

Caliscelis bonellii
This planthopper is a male of an accidentally introduced "piglet bug", family Caliscelidae. The female is much larger, and brown.
